KIA Motors Looks at More Options in AP

Hyundai sibling KIA Motors which is looking to make its entry into India by setting up its maiden factory. Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are front runners for this mega project. KIA earlier inspects a site in Sri City and later Tamil Nadu government offered 390 acres to setup the company’s factory unit.

Now, we are told that AP is offering 500 acres in Anantapur district. These lands are in Penugonda and Hindupur constituencies. Close proximity to National Highway and International Airport comes as an advantage. Representatives of KIA reportedly visited Anantapur twice. Water availability seems to be their only concern here.

The government is offering lands near to Gollapalli Reservoir. The government is assuring water to this reservoir from Handri – Neeva Canals. So the government has assured the company that they will have no issues with water. The company is reportedly mulling over setting up a factory with annual capacity of 3,00,000 units. Hyundai has a facility at Sriperumbudur, about 40 km from here. KIA Motors sells several models, Sportage, Optima, Cadenza, Soul, globally and has manufacturing facilities in Korea and Mexico.
