Liquor prices to soar in Telangana

Come this October 1st, liquor prices will be soaring up as the new excise policy of the state comes in to force. The prices of Indian made Liquor (IML) will increase from 10 Rupees to 100 Rupees per 180 ml depending on the category of the drink.

Currently a price fixation and negotiation committee is working on the revised prices. The liquor manufacturers are demanding 20% hike in basic prices while the government may accept 10-15% hike. However Beer may be spared from the price hike as the prices of beer were recently revised.

The liquor prices were last revised in 2012 in the United state. Given the huge taxes on the liquor, even with 10-15% hike in base price, the maximum retail price (MRP) of the liquor will be effectively over 300 per cent of its basic price.
