The Telangana government is ensuring that the Madhu Ridge Park issue does not escalate into another Kancha Gachibowli issue. In Kancha Gachibowli case, the government had to step back following massive protests.
However, those agitating got their voice heard as there were environmental concerns and the matter got country-wide support. But looks like the 400 families of Madhu Ridge Park may not have the voice to stop the government from displacing them. For starters, it hasn’t turned into a national issue. The BRS and the BJP did raise some protests against the imminent displacement, but the government too appears to have made its decision.
The government version is that a reservoir will be built in the land where Madhu Ridge Park stands as a part of Revanth Reddy’s ambitious Musi Rejuvenation Project.
In fact, the Revanth Reddy government is taking the example of Gujarat sarkar which had to displace 10000 people to rejuvenate the Sabarmati river near Ahmedabad for 22 kms.
The government’s team visited the Sabarmati area and they say that the Rejuvenation is now providing water for farming. The government maintains that the CM Revanth Reddy has plans to merge Musi and bring Godavari waters to Hyderabad. They point out that allegations about Musi are mainly due to opposition’s fears of Revanth Reddy continuing in power.
The leaders will fight it out verbally. But what is the future of the 400 families of Madhu Ridge Park. If they are compensated, will it be worth the trauma the 400 families would face after being displaced?
