Nara Lokesh has once again stepped up during a crisis. He was scheduled to visit Anantapur today but cancelled his trip this morning to handle a pressing issue.
He set up a war room at the Real Time Governance Center to coordinate rescue operations for Telugu people stranded in protest-hit Nepal. Lokesh reached the RTG in the Secretariat and is personally monitoring the situation.
Officials have been directed to report immediately to the RTGS centre. A special call centre and a WhatsApp helpline have also been set up for citizens to reach out.
As per reports, nearly 187 Telugu citizens from Andhra Pradesh are stranded in Nepal. Many of them are tourists, pilgrims, and workers trapped in the unrest.
The Andhra Pradesh Government has also expressed readiness to help stranded citizens from Telangana and other states if required. Details of those stuck in Nepal are being collected, and efforts are underway to bring them home with central government support.
Lokesh has also held discussions with the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, to speed up evacuation efforts.
The protests in Nepal erupted after the government imposed a mass ban on 26 social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, X, YouTube, and TikTok, starting September 3, 2025. The ban was enforced citing non-compliance with local laws.
Angry Gen Z youth hit the streets, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli. They accused the government of corruption and failing to address unemployment. They also alleged that the ban was aimed at suppressing viral videos showing children of politicians flaunting wealth with private jets, luxury cars, and foreign holidays.
By today, at least 22 people have died in clashes between protesters and security forces, with hundreds injured. The army has been deployed in Kathmandu, and curfews are in place across key districts.
In one shocking incident, the wife of a former Prime Minister was burnt alive in arson.
It is commendable that a young leader like Lokesh has risen to the occasion and is closely monitoring the evacuation efforts.
