Congress March: Is Modi’s Silence Hurting BJP?

The opposition’s march to the Supreme Court over voter-list revision has put the BJP in a difficult position. Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA bloc leaders are questioning the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, arguing that eligible voters could lose their voting rights.

The BJP can dismiss these allegations as political moves, but that alone will not settle the issue. When questions about voting rights reach the Supreme Court, people expect answers backed by evidence.

The bigger question is whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi should step in before the controversy grows further.

Is Modi’s Silence Helping the Opposition?

The Congress is trying to turn the voter-list issue into a national campaign. Every time the government fails to address public concerns, the opposition gets another opportunity to question its intentions.

Modi does not need to respond to every statement made by Rahul Gandhi. But when an issue concerns the credibility of elections, a message from the Prime Minister could make a difference.

He should assure people that no eligible voter will be denied the right to vote because of an administrative error. The government should also support a transparent process to examine disputed deletions.

Did Pradhan’s Exit Set a Precedent?

Dharmendra Pradhan’s exit raises an important question for the BJP. The CJP protests and the Congress are now demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the voter-list controversy.

Will every major protest now end with a demand for someone’s resignation? If removing a minister is seen as the solution to a crisis, what stops the next movement from demanding another removal?

Removing a Chief Election Commissioner is not as simple as removing a minister. It requires a special constitutional process and cannot be decided by political pressure alone.

The BJP must ask itself one question: Is removing people the answer to every problem, or should the focus be on addressing the actual issue?

BJP Must Act Before the Issue Grows

The BJP cannot control every opposition campaign, but it can control its response. Repeatedly attacking the opposition will not answer questions about voter-list deletions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi should consider addressing the nation. He should offer concrete assurances and explain the steps being taken to protect eligible voters. Anything less could look like an attempt at political damage control.

For the BJP, the answer lies in transparency and action, not silence or political counterattacks.
