Pawan Kalyan, chief of the Jana Sena Party was officially confirmed to tour Telangana to campaign for his party’s candidates in the upcoming municipal elections. However, in a surprising last minute move, the tour was cancelled citing health reasons.
The sudden change drew attention, especially since Jana Sena is contesting in 336 municipal seats and the party itself had formally announced Pawan Kalyan’s campaign schedule before backing out at the last hour.
This development triggered a wave of trolling from rival political camps like BRS and Kavitha supporters. Given the long standing rivalry between Pawan Kalyan’s fan base and Telangana based political supporters, his withdrawal became easy ammunition for online trolls.
That said, the political reality is fairly clear. Jana Sena has little to no organizational base in Telangana. Even if Pawan Kalyan had campaigned, it was unlikely to make any meaningful impact, especially in municipal elections where ground level cadre strength plays a decisive role. Jana Sena’s roots in Telangana remain extremely weak.
This has also been evident in the past. Even when Pawan Kalyan campaigned in Telangana for the BJP, the results were negligible.
In that sense, staying away from Telangana appears to be a wise decision but why announce it? Pawan Kalyan currently holds power in Andhra Pradesh as Deputy Chief Minister, his party enjoys representation in municipal bodies, and he commands a respectable number of MLAs in the ruling alliance. Entering Telangana at this point would likely bring unnecessary political baggage for him.
