The leader of opposition and BRS leader KCR is known for his absenteeism from state Assembly. He mostly operates from his farmhouse and hasn’t attended the Telangana Assembly for a long time.
Now, a PIL has been filed against him in the High Court by Vijalpal Reddy. The lawyer representing the petitioner argued that KCR was the leader of opposition and it was KCR’s responsibility to take up public issues for the benefit of people.
However, the jury wondered how far they can interfere in the matter. On the other hand, the lawyer on Assembly Affairs argued that there was no need for a PIL. The High Court will hear the case after two weeks.
In a democracy, it is the responsibility of the opposition leader to attend the Assembly and question the ruling party on various public issues. In KCR’s case, he had a hip operation after which his health was delicate. So it is understandable to an extent.
But now, he is in good health and must show up in the Assembly to fulfill his responsibility as an opposition floor leader. The fact that somebody had to file a PIL is rather sad in a democratic set-up.
