Political angle behind IPL matches

Now that the T20 world cup is done and dusted, the focus has completely shifted towards the VIVO IPL which is set to kick start on the 9th of this month. But even before this tournament has kick started, there is fresh trouble for the cash rich Indian Premiere League.

A few days back, a PIL was filed against the IPL to shift three of its matches from Mumbai to other cities. Going into details, the state of Maharastra is facing some serious water problems and there is a huge drought in the state. Citing the same reasons, the PIL which was filed by an NGO challenged as to how the matches will be conducted when there is serious water issue in the state.

If one can understand, tons of water is used during the matches to maintain the ground and other stuff. So the high court reacted staunchly and said that it is a criminal wastage of water and asked the IPL committee to shift the matches somewhere else.

But interesting report reveals that there is a strong political angle in this as well. As the IPL is managed by the cash rich BCCI who works on its own terms, certain Mumbai based politicians wanted the board to learn its lesson in a very hard way and had played this trick by filing a case.

Now that a fresh hearing will be done today where fresh arguments will be made, it will be interesting to see how BCCI deals with all this pressure and come out with a solution.
