Politically Novice, Narayana becomes Minister

Punguru Narayana, Head of Narayana Educational Institutions who has not contested any elections has taken oath as Minister in Chandra Babu’s cabinet on Sunday. Narayana is currently not member of any house in the state. Narayana is a strong confidant of Nara Chandra Babu Naidu and Telugu Desam Party. Despite TDP offering him ticket several times, he refused to contest elections.However Narayana has taken over the responsibility of the North Andhra districts during the election campaigning and strengthened the party there.

In the recently concluded elections, TDP has won majority seats in Uttarandhra region and now he is rewarded for it. According to law, if a person attains the portfolio of a minister in the state cabinet, he should become the member of any house within a period of 6 months from the date of attaining the post. So, it is likely that Narayana would be elected as MLC either in governor’s quota or the local body quota.
