PV Sindhu At The Center Of A Brand Controversy

Olympic Silver Medal winner, PV Sindhu finds herself in the midst of a controversy over the sportswear she used during their matches. Official sponsor of the Indian contingent, Li Ning, have complained to the IOA regarding the use of a rival brand’s apparel. Li Ning is the official sponsors of the Indian contingent.

The brand entered into a 3 crore sponsorship deal with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) ahead of the Games. According to the deal made it mandatory that Indian players wear the Li Ning kits while participating in their matches. Sindhu wore the official kit in the earlier rounds.

She had chosen red and yellow as her two colours since she felt that they were lucky for her. But from the quarter-final onwards, her opponents were ranked higher and had a choice of colour, since they picked red, Sindhu had to wear yellow. But since, yellow is not available in Li Ning kit, she had no option but to wear yellow. Li Ning have complained to IOA over this. This is also the case with many others have the same issue.
