Quieter Diwali in Telangana This Year

Diwali is fast approaching and then there are growing voices about the sound and air pollution, the festival brings. However, officials say that this Diwali will be quieter and cleaner in Telangana this year with the government and traders complying with noise and smoke limits issued by the Central government.

On the insistence of the Pollution Control Board, The firecracker traders and dealers held a series of meetings with manufacturers in Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu, the hub of the firecracker industry. And these meetings resulted in the supply of 90% stock which complies with sound and air pollution standards.

According to the guidelines issued by the Center in 2006, in the second amendment to the Environment Protection Rules, 1999, bans the sale or use of firecrackers generating noise levels exceeding 125 decibels. For joined firecrackers, the limit is reduced. The rest of the 10% crackers will be from unauthorized or illegal manufacturers.
