Raptadu School Attack in Anantapur
A Class 10 student was critically injured after a man allegedly attacked her with an electric saw inside a government school classroom in Raptadu mandal of Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district on Saturday, October 31.
The incident occurred at the Zilla Parishad High School while classes were underway. The attacker reportedly entered the classroom carrying a wood-cutting machine and assaulted the student, leaving her with serious injuries.
Another girl who attempted to stop the attack was also injured. Teachers and fellow students alerted the authorities, and both injured students were rushed to hospital for treatment.
The incident triggered panic among students and teachers. Questions have also been raised about how an outsider carrying a dangerous machine was able to enter the school premises.
Police registered a case and launched an investigation into the attack. Initial reports indicated that the accused fled the premises, while later reporting suggested that a suspect had been apprehended. His identity, motive and custody status require official confirmation.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the incident and enquired about the injured student’s condition. He directed officials to ensure proper medical treatment and asked police to take strict legal action against the accused.
Education Minister Nara Lokesh also condemned the attack and expressed concern over the students’ safety. He warned that violence against girls and women would be dealt with firmly.
The incident has raised serious concerns about security arrangements at government schools, particularly the entry of outsiders into classrooms while students are attending lessons.
