Telangana CM Revanth Reddy made candid remarks on Speaker Gaddam Prasad dismissing the disqualification petition filed by BRS. Of the 10 MLAs accused of defection, petitions against five MLAs were dismissed, allowing them to retain their positions.
The decision means the five MLAs will continue as part of BRS. However, the party expressed dissatisfaction with the Speaker’s ruling. BRS had been expecting by elections in 10 constituencies and viewed the dismissal as a setback.
Responding to the criticism, Revanth Reddy said BRS could approach the Court if it disagreed with the Speaker’s decision. He referred to statements by Harish Rao claiming BRS has 37 MLAs and deserves adequate time in the Assembly.
Revanth Reddy pointed out that Harish Rao repeated the same claim even during the recent Assembly session. These remarks were widely reported in newspapers and on television. He also mentioned deductions of Rs 5000 from MLA salaries for the BRS LP fund.
Questioning the party’s stance, the CM asked why BRS hesitates to accept its own MLAs. He termed it unfortunate to deny party membership to sitting MLAs and said the ruling party had no role in the Speaker’s decision.
