Sabita Indira Reddy, BRS leader and former minister, along with ex IAS officer Krupanandam, received notices from the Telangana High Court in the Obulapuram Mining Company case. The CBI challenged an earlier decision that had declared them innocent in the case.
The High Court has directed both Sabita Indira Reddy and Krupanandam to file their counters and adjourned the matter for hearing next month. The CBI petition came after the Nampally CBI Court had given its final judgment in May 2025.
The OMC case, which lasted for 15 years, ended with five people declared guilty and two acquitted. The guilty included Gali Janardhan Reddy, BV Srinivasa Reddy, Mefaz Ali Khan, and former mining director VD Rajagopal. They received seven years of imprisonment.
Apart from the prison term, each of the convicted was fined Rs 10,000, while Obulapuram Mining Company itself faced a penalty of Rs 2 lakh. At the time, both Sabita Indira Reddy and Krupanandam had been cleared of all charges by the court.
Recently, those convicted including Gali Janardhan Reddy, BV Srinivasa Reddy, Gali’s aide Ali Khan, and VD Rajagopal were granted bail. Their release has once again drawn attention to the long-running and high-profile case in Andhra Pradesh.
Another accused, IAS officer Y Srilakshmi, had earlier filed a petition seeking discharge. Though the Telangana High Court granted her relief, the CBI appealed in the Supreme Court. Following Supreme Court directions, her plea was dismissed in July.
Now, with the notices served, Sabita Indira Reddy must respond to the CBI petition. The OMC case remains one of the most significant graft cases that shook Andhra Pradesh politics and continues to draw national attention.
