All set for Vijayawada Airport Expansion

Gannavaram Airport expansion is all set for a major boost as all the major hurdles for the runway expansion is cleared so as to handle large aircraft like Airbus A 320. The necessary land acquisition of 698 acres is complete and the district administration will be handing over the land to airport authorities by this month end.

As soon as the land is handed over, airport authorities are planning to construct an 11 km long compound wall. Authorities have already obtained approvals for phase I of runway expansion, which will be 739 meters long taking the total length of runway to 3,025 meters from the present 2,286.

The additional runway will be finished and brought to operation in one year time once the works commence. The first phase expansion will cost 145 Crore and after completion of the runway expansion, large aircraft like Airbus A320 can land without any hitch. On the other side, the Airport will also get an additional 10 parking bays for aircraft by August end.
