Social media political campaign -How crucial is it?

If we look back, ten years ago, politicians used to go house to house for campaigning. Visiting houses, eating their food, taking blessings from them, delivering an inspiring speech and many more things were the things that had to be done by them. This is not only a tiresome job, but also takes lots of time. But now, in 2014, a large amount of Indian population has access to Internet and a new world of publicizing has touched the skins of politicians.

Back in 2009, only 5.1% of the Indians had access to the Internet. But now, it has grown drastically and about 19% of Indians have access to the internet. It is calculated that almost 25 crore Indians will have access to the Internet by the end of June, 2014. So, taking this opportunity, political parties have started hitting social media to campaign as there is little time for the elections.

Most Youth, nowadays, are using Social networking sites for great amount of time. Parties have grabbed this fact and have started releasing different ads promoting their parties in these sites. These ads impress the young people and they keep sharing them, which in turn, adds to the publicity of the party.

Smart phones have emerged into the society drastically and availability of Internet over phone is the greatest advantage a party can have. Social media political campaigning is a crucial route for parties to make themselves heard to a large group of people with little stress and that is why, the ones who can make the most of it will triumph.
