After Sai, Now Rakul Preet: Ramayana Villains Glorified?

The release date of Ramayana is approaching, and amid that, the movie continues to be in the headlines for a lot of reasons. This time, Nitesh Tiwari’s film is trending due to a comment made by Rakul Preet Singh, who is playing Surpanakha.

A video of the actress is going viral on social media, where she was giving an interview somewhere. Notably, she was heard saying that Surpanakha is a layered character since she is the reason why the war takes place.
Rakul then stated, “She’s a very misunderstood character and has a very…so it’s been really interesting to play something with so many multiple shades.”

Notably, the new clip is trending a few days after Sai Pallavi made similar comments, saying that Ravana was not bad. While a debate has already emerged on social media due to the viral videos, none of the actresses have reacted to the same until now.

Rakul’s video has instantly started a discussion on various platforms. Netizens were spotted questioning why the actors have started making such comments a few days before the film’s release. Some others even expressed doubts whether it was a part of some promotional activity to create hype for the film.

Social media users criticized the situation by saying that just because the actors are playing that particular role, it does not mean that the characters become good or misunderstood. Some even alleged that the makers were trying to whitewash the negative characters in the film and tarnish the image of Lord Ram.

A particular section also claimed that the things that everything that is being said in these comments by the actors are the reason why the movie is named Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana instead of Ramayana. A few reactions claimed that the actors were being paid to say such things in front of the camera.

Ramayana is arriving at the theatres on November 5, 2026. The advance booking has been decent so far in India, and trade experts have already predicted a big opening, leading to an outstanding collection by the end of the theatrical run.

The comments made by Rakul and Sai have clearly created a small controversy for the film. Now it will be interesting to see whether this issue will impact the collections of the film in any manner or if the consequences are going to be worse than expected.
