South Indian politics are generally different to North Indian politics as terms are far more personal and direct here. In fact, the political equilibrium is so very tough that even families will have to take the suffering here.
In Andhra Pradesh, we have the case of YS Jagan, who enjoyed unconditional love and support of his mother Vijayamma and sister Sharmila before 2019. And the graph changed after he became CM as there was a complete fallout by 2024. It’s at a point where Jagan is lodging cases and complaints against Sharmila and Vijayamma.
A similar trajectory is seen in Telangana as well within the KCR family. KCR, Harish Rao and KTR are on one side while the daughter of the house Kavitha has taken the other route.
Kavita is going to launch her own political party in Telangana, and she is expected to go super hard against the BRS leadership and also her own family members. She had been taking up comments indirectly on KCR and particularly so against Harish Rao whom she calls “Guntanakka”.
Coming to Tamil Nadu, we have Thalapathy Vijay, who is facing a personal turmoil of his own. His wife Sangeeta has filed for divorce just months before the Tamil Nadu assembly election, breaking their decades long marriage.
Vijay is now having to stand in front of the court for the divorce proceedings, and this is not a pleasant sight for him or his followers.
There might be multiple personal and internal reasons behind these splits within the political families but there’s a layer of political coating that far supersedes all of this. This is the demanding nature of South Indian politics, as even family members are not spared of the repercussions.
