Special Railway Zone for Vishakapatnam is now A Reality

The Special Railway Zone which is the dream of the people from Uttarandhra is finally a reality. The Union Government which has been maintaining that the Zone is not viable finally announced it at the stroke of the elections. Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal announced it a little while ago.

The new zone will be called South Coastal Railways. The Zone will comprise of the Vijayawada, Guntur, and Guntakal divisions. The existing Waltair Division will be divided into Two. A portion will be present in the new zone and the other in the East Coastal Railways. This announcement has come just before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Vishakapatnam Visit on March 1st.

BJP has won Vishakapatnam Lok Sabha segment in 2014 elections. The then BJP State President Haribabu emerged as a Giant Killer defeating YS Vijayamma. Railway Zone is the Primary Promise of Haribabu in that election but BJP kept it in cold storage along with the other promises made to Andhra Pradesh. It has to be seen if this announcement help BJP retain Vishakapatnam.
