Jan Suraaj chief Prashant Kishor filed a petition seeking cancellation of the Bihar elections held in November 2024. His party Jan Suraaj contested 238 seats in the Assembly elections. The party failed to win a single seat.
The Supreme Court dismissed the petition on Friday. In his plea, Prashant Kishor alleged that the ruling party distributed money to people in Bihar before the Assembly elections. The court did not accept these claims.
After rejecting the petition, the Chief Justice said Prashant Kishor was wasting the Court’s time. The bench questioned the party’s vote share. It said the judicial forum cannot be used to seek relief after electoral defeat.
The Chief Justice noted that objections should have been raised earlier through a PIL. The matter was forwarded to Bihar High Court. Jan Suraaj opposed the reported distribution of Rs 10,000 to women before elections, citing voter influence concerns.
Jan Suraaj also filed the petition under Article 32. The party claimed that nearly 36 lakh people received money under the scheme. According to the petition, the distribution was intended to influence voters during elections.
