Supreme Court’s Sensational Order On Abortion

The Supreme Court of India has passed a sensational order on abortions of unmarried women. The top court’s verdict on the same is drawing a great response on social media.

The court has ruled that any women, married or unmarried holds the right to abort the pregnancy within 24 weeks of conception.

The Court stated that the concerned individual’s family’s consent is not needed to carry out the abortion. Also, the doctors can’t impose any further restrictions or limitations when they are approached by women regarding abortion.

The bench also said that no benefits of law must be decided on the basis of narrow patriarchal norms. It will kill the soul of the law.

The court has termed this decision as a progressive first step forward. This order will be in effect regardless of the marital status of the individual.
