TDP-Jana Sena Alliance cannot Survive Public Insults

Jana Sena supporters are increasingly frustrated by the lack of opportunities for party workers in the Local Body Elections. For many grassroots workers, these elections are the first real opportunity to move from party activity to elected office. Unlike Assembly or Lok Sabha elections, local polls give ordinary workers a chance to build their political careers.

The response from sections of TDP-supporting media has been to remind Jana Sena that TDP workers have also made sacrifices under the alliance. This misses the larger issue. A coalition cannot function on seat-sharing arithmetic alone. It needs mutual respect and a clear understanding of each partner’s political ambitions.

TDP workers have every right to expect opportunities after years of service. Jana Sena workers have the same right. Neither party can demand sacrifices from its own cadre indefinitely while expecting the other side to remain silent about its concerns. The real problem begins when these differences turn into public exchanges, with supporters of one party questioning the loyalty, maturity or political standing of the other.

Jana Sena also needs to recognise the political reality of an alliance. If the party believes its workers are being denied a fair share of opportunities, its leadership must address the issue through negotiations rather than allow frustration to grow unchecked. At the same time, TDP supporters and affiliated media must understand that Jana Sena is an independent political party with its own cadre and it cannot be expected to suppress every grievance simply because it is part of the ruling coalition.

Publicly humiliating one another is not a substitute for negotiation. And if either party believes the alliance no longer serves its political interests, contesting independently is a legitimate option to consider. The responsibility lies with both leaderships to settle these differences before social media hostility spills into the relationship between their workers.
