Telangana Government clarifies on GHMC elections

Telangana government’s counsel today informed the Hyderabad High Court that the elections for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will happen before January 31st the next year. The court instructed the government to file an affidavit stating the same.

Earlier the court instructed the government to complete the elections by December and now a one month relaxation was given. The court asked the government why the elections are being delayed, for which the government counsel informed that delimitation of the wards and Aadhar linking of votes is delaying the election.

GHMC election is the biggest challenge for the ruling party after easily coming to power as the party managed to win just 3 MLA seats of the total 24 seats. TDP and BJP combine has a whopping 13 seats here with the support of the settlers. TRS did not even contest the previous GHMC elections in 2009.
