Telangana Govt Changes Tune on Secretariat Demolition

The Telangana government’s plan of constructing a new secretariat demolishing the old one has reached the Hyderabad High Court. The State government has changed its tune about the Vaastu defects of the existing Secretariat and is claiming that the buildings are old and unsafe. The Chief Minister always blamed that the buildings have dangerous Vaastu defects but changed the tune in the court.

The government also informed the court that none of the blocks comply with fire safety rules; if a fire breaks out, there could be a loss of lives, property and crucial documents and files. The government even submitted the lack of fire safety in some buildings by the fire department. The government also claims that G-Block, constructed by the Nizams in 1888 and not in use since 22 years, may collapse anytime.

One more argument for the government is that the different blocks in the secretariat lack inter-connectivity and staff get drenched moving from one block to another during rains. On the other day, a high-level committee of senior IAS officers had a detailed discussion with law department officials to finalize their counter argument.

The case filed by Congress MLA T. Jeevan Reddy to prevent the demolition is expected to come up for hearing on Tuesday. Unless there is a stay, the government will very soon finalize a time soon to begin demolition of the existing secretariat complex. This muhurath is expected to be in one of the several auspicious days and muhuraths coming up in November.
