The health department in Telangana is preparing to launch a dedicated surrogacy portal. Recognising the need for a safe and transparent system for parents seeking surrogacy, the state government has decided to create this platform.
Couples opting for surrogacy will be able to submit their personal details on the portal, which is being developed by the Health and Family Welfare Commissionarate. Earlier, parents had to provide the same data separately to the district committee, state committee and court.
With several illegal cases like Srusthi exposed by the police, the Health and Family Welfare Department is now aiming to make the process error-free using technology. Those opting for surrogacy must share all details on the portal and proceed only after receiving government approval.
Meanwhile, task force raids have been completed across the state. Officials inspected 376 centres and found many being run by unauthorised persons. Ultrasound machines were used illegally, and most centres lacked qualified embryologists.
Show cause notices will soon be issued to these centres. The Health and Family Welfare Department is also preparing a detailed report on the findings.
