The Telangana excise department recorded massive liquor sales during three days of Dassera. In just this short period, the state earned Rs 698 crore from liquor purchases.
Dassera and Gandhi Jayanti overlapped between September 29 and October 1, and sales touched Rs 698.89 crore. Around 7.22 lakh cases of beer and 6.7 lakh cases of liquor were sold. This marked a 76% increase compared to last year, with overall Dassera sales crossing Rs 1,000 crore.
On September 29, sales touched Rs 278 crore. The next day, September 30, recorded Rs 333 crore. October 1 added another Rs 86 crore. Liquor sales were higher than beer, as people hosted grand celebrations during the 10-day festival.
Another factor behind the sharp rise in demand was the upcoming local body elections. Political circles reportedly celebrated in advance, driving up liquor sales across Telangana.
