Pays Crores In Tax, Loses Mayor Post: Telangana

This is the story of Katipalli Samantha. To get nomination, she paid tax dues worth Rs 8 crore. Samantha contested from 19th division in Nizamabad corporation during the recently held municipal polls.

The Congress announced Samantha as Mayor candidate, following which she cleared her tax dues. According to locals, Samantha is alleged to have given Rs 5000 to Rs 10,000 for each vote. The locals say she also gave money for other divisions in the corporation which bolstered her expenditure to about Rs 20 crore.

But Samantha got the shock of her life when her division people voted for the BJP candidate. Unable to bear the loss, Samantha went away from the polling station.

The story is doing rounds in social media as the citizens of Telangana are amused by her plight. Well, the moral of the story is to not underestimate the math of voters.

Though the Congress party had a clear majority across the state, Samantha’s splurge did not help her win in the municipal elections leading to gross embarrassment.
