Telugu States Heading to ‘Power Disaster’

Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are taking on each other over power sharing and related issues. It went to the extent of each state threatening the other state. Telangana made the first move by stopping coal supply from Singareni Collieries, as a result, some of the plants in AP are running out of coal supply which may lead to the stopping of the power production.

Singareni claims that there pending dues to the tune of Rs. 2,000 crore from Andhra Pradesh. On the other side, Andhra Pradesh is urging Telangana utilities to adjust their pending dues with SCCL so that supply of coal could resume. Telangana Utilities are given time till 31st of this month to clear the dues of 3200 Crore or the power supply to Telangana will be stopped, APGENCO served the ultimatum.

On the other side, Telangana Power Utilities say that the AP utilities are due to the tune of Rs. 2,204 crore to Telangana GENCO saying that though Kurnool and Anantapur, which were part of the erstwhile Central Power Distribution Company Limited, had been transferred to Andhra Pradesh, the costs of power sharing still appeared in the books of the Telangana utilities.
