Three Capitals Done & Dusted For This Term!

The Supreme Court adjourned all cases related to Amaravati to April. The Bench comprising of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Gupta announced it would hear the arguments on the day reserved for non-miscellaneous business in April.

The Apex Court refused to issue a stay on the High Court’s earlier verdict that Amaravati is the capital of Andhra Pradesh.

The Government lawyer, Mukul Rohatgi tried to argue that the state had every right to decide the location of the capital and there was nothing in the AP Reorganisation Act that said the state should have only one capital.

However the Supreme Court clarified that it can not take a decision without elaborate hearings.

Earlier, the Government already committed in the High Court that it would not move the capital and government offices until the cases were cleared legally.

If the Supreme Court hears the cases in April, that means relocation to Vishakapatnam will not be possible in this term of Jagan Mohan Reddy.

If the Government changes, Amaravati will continue to be the capital and Jagan will get the name of successfully stalling the capital works for five years in the name of a fictitious concept called ‘Three Capitals’.
