IndiGo will start operating flights from Vijayawada to Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane via Singapore from November 15. These flights will run under a codeshare agreement with Qantas Airways.
The announcement has brought cheer to families with relatives in Australia. Many thanked HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, who visited Australia last week and helped push the initiative forward.
Flights will operate every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Passengers can now book a single ticket for a valid connection with full baggage transfer between Vijayawada and the three Australian cities.
High demand for connectivity with Australia led to the decision. The new services will promote business, tourism, and education ties between Andhra Pradesh and Australia.
A large Telugu community already lives in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. Their numbers have grown rapidly over the past decade. Many from Vijayawada and nearby areas now prefer Australia as a peaceful, beautiful, and welcoming destination.
