Vijayasai Questions Vijayawada Mayor Race
Former MP Vijayasai Reddy has launched a sharp attack on the TDP-led alliance and YSRCP over the political developments surrounding retired IPS officer AB Venkateswara Rao’s entry into the Vijayawada mayoral race. In a post on X, he questioned the political alignments behind the contest and accused different parties of following contradictory strategies.
AB Venkateswara Rao has entered the mayoral race as an independent candidate after Jana Sena announced Vangaveeti Radha as its candidate for the TDP-led alliance and YSRCP fielded former mayor Rayana Bhagyalakshmi. Congress and Left parties have extended their support to the retired police officer. His entry has added a new dimension to the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation election.
Vijayasai Reddy Questions Congress and Left Parties
In his post, Vijayasai Reddy pointed to the political links between Congress, the CPI, the CPM and YSRCP. He noted that the Left parties are part of the INDIA alliance led by Congress. He also alleged that YSRCP had extended unconditional support to the “Cockroach Party”. He said the CPI had separately announced that it was working with YSRCP.
Vijayasai Reddy also highlighted Venkateswara Rao’s reported opposition to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy returning as Chief Minister. He described the retired officer’s stated position as “Jagan Never Again” and questioned how parties with different political interests had come together to support his mayoral bid.
Chandrababu Naidu Faces Political Attack
Vijayasai Reddy directed his strongest criticism at Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. He alleged that Naidu had sent Vangaveeti Radha, the son of Kapu leader Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga, to Jana Sena while allowing Venkateswara Rao, whom he described as a Kamma leader, to contest as an independent candidate with Congress and Left support.
He termed this strategy an example of Naidu’s political manoeuvring. He also claimed that Reddy industrialists had been among Venkateswara Rao’s targets over the past two years. These remarks formed part of his broader criticism of the political calculations surrounding the Vijayawada mayoral contest.
Vijayawada Mayoral Contest Gains Attention
Vijayasai Reddy concluded his post by questioning how long the people of Andhra Pradesh should tolerate what he described as shameless politics.
His remarks come amid a changing political landscape in Andhra Pradesh. Venkateswara Rao’s independent candidature has brought together parties and political groups with different backgrounds in support of a common candidate. Vijayasai Reddy’s criticism has now added another layer to the contest.
With Jana Sena, YSRCP and the independent candidate backed by Congress and the Left parties entering the race, the Vijayawada mayoral election has become a focal point for competing political strategies.
