The Central government has suggested route changes to Metros in Vijayawada and Vizag. The Government of India is contemplating the next best move for the cities poised to become the most advanced cities in India once all the projects get grounded.
Metro is an important part of public transport and connectivity. Understanding the need and keeping the future growth in mind, CM Chandrababu has decided to develop Metro in Vijayawada and Vizag in collaboration with the Central government.
However, hiccups do come when one talks of long-term projects during the initial stages. Accordingly, the Center has decided that the Metro in Vizag will run from the Steel Plant to Kommadi through the National Highway median instead of a double-decker flyover. Their argument is that costs are bound to escalate and reduce passenger viability.
Similarly, in Vijayawada, the Center has suggested that the Metro will start from Kaleswaram Market instead of PNBS bus stand.
RITES Limited has been assigned the task of conducting a fresh survey within 60 days.
Both Metro projects are expected to be complete by 2029.
