What Is the Film Lovers Day About?
Roshan (Roshan Abdul Raheef)falls in love with Priya (Priya Prakash Warrior) on the first sight itself. An unfortunate situation brings him closer to Gadha (Noorin Shereef). What happens between the three in the college days is what the film is all about?

How Is Roshan Abdul Rahoof’s Performance?
Roshan Abdul Raheef has the charm and age to play the part given to him. He is one among the many young boys and girls who have been cast well for their roles. That is kind of like the half job done for them. But besides the smiling and funny side, there is a visible lacking in other emotional departments.

Direction by Omar Lulu?
Omar Lulu’s idea is evident with the predictable plot at hand. He wants to create a world in the college premise and characters in it that stay with the audience long after we have come out of the show. We have to say Omar has failed in creating that lingering impact.

The first half of the movie is plotless. Most of the time is put on introducing characters, which are way too many, and then give them a few interactive scenes so that they all become a gang-like. It takes the entire first hour.

It is in the second half that we finally get some momentum and a story, albeit a highly predictable one. What makes the parts tick is the funny moments that come from time to time like the police station sequence. It generated laughs for sure. But, there are many other moments which feel like needlessly going on. The major turn in the story is so predictable, but the actors, make it passable. Also, there is a feeling that the climax was not needed.

Overall, much like Husharu, Lovers Day offers entertainment and emotions that might find resonance with a tiny youth segment. For others, it appears extremely silly and highly predictable to see any real enjoyment.

Priya Prakash Varrier’s and Others?
Although Priya Prakash Warrior got all the limelight, when it comes to performance it is Noorin Shereef who has got a better part. Both are perfectly suitable for their roles, though. But the emotional and character design of Noorin trumps in the end. The entire gang of the college boys and girl are well cast. They all represent a stereotype and such is the preciseness in picking them that by the end the characters stay with us in spite of the sheer predictability on display. Siyadh Shahjahan stands out among them, although he looks like the weak link initially.

Music and Other Departments?
Music by Shaan Rahman is decent, and it follows the teen romance theme to the T. The background score is good at the right moments. The cinematography is alright. The editing could have been better despite the short run time. The writing is below par.

Highlights?
Few Funny Moments
Expressive Cast
Short Length

Drawbacks?
Weak Story
First Half
Predictable Narrative

Alternative Take
Husharu that came in December last year is a proper alternative version.

Did I Enjoy It?
Very few scenes

Will You Recommend It?
No
