India Becomes Fourth Largest Stock Market

The Indian Stock Market has become the fourth-largest globally, surpassing Hong Kong. The combined value of shares on Indian exchanges reached US$4.33 trillion by the end of Monday’s closing, exceeding Hong Kong’s US$4.29 trillion.

On December 5, India’s stock market capitalization exceeded $4 trillion for the first time. The current top three stock markets globally are the United States, China, and Japan.

Investors in Indian stocks have had an impressive year, with the Sensex and Nifty gaining 17-18 per cent cumulatively in 2023, compared to a more modest 3-4 per cent each in 2022.
