The sinking of a portion of the Lakshmi barrage in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme is under investigation by a committee led by National Dam Safety Authority chairman Anil Jain. The incident, in which a pillar of the Medigadda bridge sank, was accompanied by a loud sound.
The barrage, constructed by L&T in 2019, had operated for five flood seasons. The Telangana government filed a police complaint to probe a possible conspiracy.
