The Tata Group has acquired the manufacturing plant belonging to Taiwanese company Wistron to start making iPhones in India, making it the first Indian company to do so. Union Minister Rajiv Chandrasekhar officially announced this development.
In the next two and a half years, iPhones manufactured by the Tata Group will be available for sale in India and abroad. Currently, Wistron Corp manufactures iPhones in Karnataka and Tata was initially supposed to begin a joint venture with them but it was called off.
In his tweet, Rajeev Chandrasekhar wrote, “Now within just two and a half years, Tata Companies will now start making iPhones from India for domestic and global markets from India.”
