AI Impact on Indian IT Jobs and Software Engineers
Artificial intelligence is having a significant impact on the global job market, with its effects increasingly being felt across the workforce. As companies adopt AI tools and agents, concerns are growing about the future of entry-level jobs and employment opportunities.
Several entry-level tasks are now being handled by AI tools, including basic coding operations and routine software development activities. This shift is raising concerns about the demand for entry-level professionals, particularly in technology-related roles.
India, one of the world’s major IT hubs, is also facing pressure from these changes. Reports suggest that leading Indian IT companies have collectively recorded around 92,000 employee exits over the past year, adding to concerns about employment across the sector.
Major companies in the Indian IT industry, including TCS, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, HCL and Wipro, have reportedly recorded a combined 92,000 exits during this period. The figure includes both voluntary departures and job cuts, meaning the total should not be interpreted as layoffs alone.
The employment picture is becoming more complicated with reports of further job cuts at global technology companies. Qualcomm is reportedly planning workforce reductions, although the exact number of affected employees has not been confirmed here.
The situation is also challenging for Indian technology professionals in the United States. Some Indian tech workers who have lost their jobs are reportedly returning home and facing difficulties finding suitable employment. However, the pressure on the IT sector reflects several factors, including slower client spending, cautious hiring and changing skill requirements, rather than AI alone.
