A shocking piece of news has shaken the people of Bengaluru by their shoulders, ringing alarm bells in their heads.
In what can only be considered as another case of torture, a techie recently tried to set himself on fire outside Raj Bhavan in a desperate attempt to make the authorities aware of the harassment he has been receiving in an alleged case of ‘domestic violence’.
While the authorities were quick to act, saving the man’s life, his actions have once again sparked the debate of female-centric laws in India which are often exploited nowadays to harass husbands and their families.
There is a strong need to revise such laws, making them fair to both sides so that any potential exploitor is forced to think twice before making a mockery out of a law made to protect the real vulnerable women of our nation.
It will be interesting to see whether this incident warrants the long-overdue action or if more men get sacrificed before the authorities take note of the situation.
