In a surprising twist of nature, a deer was recently witnessed consuming a snake. This extraordinary event highlights the adaptability and opportunistic behavior displayed by animals when faced with the struggle for survival.
Despite being herbivorous by nature, the deer seized the chance and devoured the snake, showcasing the unpredictability of wildlife and the intricate balance within ecosystems. It was a 21-second video captured by a driver, The man behind the camera exclaimed, “Eating a snake?”
The video was first shared by Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Susanta Nanda. Along with the video the officer tweeted: “Cameras are helping us understand Nature better. Yes. Herbivorous animals do eat snakes at times.”
This unexpected behavior left many viewers stunned since deer are commonly known as herbivores and primarily eat plants. But deers are not strict herbivores. A tweeter user Science Girl explained: “Deer are herbivores and classified as ruminants, as rumen helps them digest tough plant matter like cellulose. However, if food is scarce or they lack minerals such as phosphorus and calcium, they may resort to eating meat.”
Research has shown that deer can eat birds, fish, dead rabbits, and reptiles without any issues. After the clip went viral, Netizen’s reaction was worth noticing.
