Disturbing Wedding Gift: Murder Turns Into Joke

In a wedding held in Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh, a group of friends gifted something so unusual to the bride and groom that it left guests stunned and uneasy.

During the “jaimala” ceremony, the groom’s friends walked onto the stage carrying a large blue plastic drum. While some laughed and clicked photos, many were left unsettled. The bride chuckled in surprise, but the groom appeared visibly uncomfortable.

The wedding was between Shailendra Rajput from Mangraul village and Seema from Rihunta village.

The ceremony took place in a marriage garden in Rath town and followed all the usual rituals, from the grand entry of the groom with band-baaja to the exchange of garlands. But the moment the blue drum was handed over as a “gift,” the mood shifted.

For some, it seemed like a harmless prank, but the symbolism of the blue drum was far from funny. Onlookers quickly connected it with the infamous Meerut murder case, where a man’s body was found stuffed in a similar blue drum after his wife and her boyfriend murdered him.

The case had shocked the nation, and referencing it at a wedding, which is a celebration of new beginnings, felt insensitive to many.

The video of the incident has now gone viral on social media, with mixed reactions. While a few called it “creative,” others rightly condemned the act for trivialising a real and painful tragedy.

Weddings should be moments of joy and dignity, not opportunities to mock traumatic events. Such gestures, no matter how playful they seem, can deeply hurt sentiments and should be discouraged.
