Don’t Talk To Low Credit People In China!

Credit scores and ratings are now an integral part of our financial system. Higher credit score results in hassle free access to loan services. But have you ever thought about a credit system that rates you for everything you do and can also affect everything you want to do? This is close to reality in China with the Government’s new Social Credit System that aims to reward and punish citizens’ behavior. A video has gone viral about the same system that warns people from talking with anyone with a low credit score.

The video claims to demonstrate a new addition to this system. According to it, whenever someone receives a phone call from a person with low credit score, the phone plays a siren instead of the regular ringtone and then plays a message warning the person that having a conversation with the caller would result in low credit scores.

However, on investigation, it has been found that the claims made in the video are false. The video has received over 10 million views on Twitter and even Elon Musk has reacted to it. People seem concerned about the developments in China. Some are comparing it to an episode in Black Mirror while some with Orwell’s Big Brother.
