In India, public reactions to crime often shift based on who is involved. When someone from a minority community commits a violent act, people quickly blame poverty or lack of education. Some even extend sympathy to the criminal, while the same empathy disappears in other cases. This double standard creates confusion and unfair judgement in society.
Recently, actors Shilpa Shetty and Rajpal Yadav took part in a Sanatan Hindu Ekta Padyatra in Mathura. The march focused on unity and cultural awareness. They joined the event on their own, without any pressure or invitation. Yet people began trolling them and tried to pull down the programme by bringing up Raj Kundra’s past legal matters.
This does not seek sympathy for Raj Kundra or Shilpa Shetty. Their personal issues are separate and must be handled by the law. But using unrelated controversies to attack a positive social activity feels unnecessary and distracts from the main purpose.
Good initiatives deserve to be judged by intent. They should not be dismissed because of someone’s unrelated history. Instead of searching for faults in every effort, it is better to support steps that bring people together.
