A series of tragic incidents involving four young women across India has sparked widespread debate on social media. Each case reportedly involved emotional distress linked to troubled romantic relationships.
These incidents, which occurred over the past month, have raised concerns about mental health, emotional abuse, and the pressures faced in personal relationships.
On February 5, 2026, Battula Deepika, a postgraduate anesthesiology student from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, died by suicide at Government General Hospital. She reportedly administered a fatal injection.
Police later arrested Dr. Amar Sahas in connection with the case. He was booked under BNS Section 108 for alleged abetment to suicide.
Reports say Deepika spoke with him for nine minutes shortly before her death. Investigators believe the call took place after he reportedly refused to marry her while planning to marry someone else.
Another case involved Stuti Sonawane, a 24 year old MDS dentistry student from Mumbai. She died by suicide at her residence in Antop Hill on March 10, 2026.
A six page suicide note reportedly described months of emotional distress. It mentioned allegations of character attacks, cheating accusations, and mental harassment by her boyfriend Fuzail Mohammed Khan.
Police arrested the accused on the same day under charges of abetment to suicide. The case quickly drew public attention.
On the following day, another incident occurred in Gurugram. Manmeet Kaur, a 23 year old private company employee originally from Dehradun, was found dead after reportedly jumping from a building rooftop.
Reports say the incident followed an argument with her boyfriend. She had been living with a friend in Gurugram since late 2025.
Police later said they did not find evidence of foul play. Her family also did not file a formal complaint, and the case did not proceed further.
In another incident on March 12, 2026, a 34 year old fashion designer from Agra died by suicide. Before her death, she recorded videos accusing her live in partner of prolonged harassment.
The accused, identified as UP Police constable JP Gautam, was later arrested. Authorities also suspended him and placed him in judicial custody.
The series of incidents has triggered strong reactions online. Many people are calling for greater awareness of mental health support and stronger action against emotional abuse.
Several social media users have also urged open discussions about relationship pressures. Experts say conversations about mental wellbeing and support systems remain essential.
