In a powerful display of humanitarianism, badminton star Gutta Jwala has recently opened up about her incredible journey as a breast milk donor. Over the first year of her postpartum journey, following the birth of her daughter, Mira, in April 2025, Jwala has donated approximately 60 litres of breast milk to government hospitals and milk banks across Hyderabad and Chennai.

What started as a quiet act of kindness has now become a major awareness campaign. Jwala, along with organizations like the Amirtham Breastmilk Foundation, is working to normalise milk donation and highlight its life-saving potential for the most vulnerable infants in our society.

Donor human milk is scientifically proven to reduce the risk of Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC) a life-threatening gut condition that often affects premature babies.

By being vocal about her journey, even sharing that breastfeeding was initially painful and difficult, Jwala is breaking the silence surrounding maternal health struggles. Her goal is to inspire other healthy, lactating mothers to check with their local government hospitals and contribute to milk banks.
