Hyderabad Family Found Dead: Shocking Loan Harassment?

A tragic incident in Hyderabad has exposed the harsh realities of illegal money lending and financial harassment. A family of three in the Amberpet area allegedly died by suicide after facing constant pressure from private lenders.

The incident occurred on February 24, 2026, at their residence in Bapu Nagar. Police believe the deaths were linked to severe harassment related to a large private loan.

Kadgekar Ramraj, 54, his wife Madhavi, 50, and their 24 year old son Shashank Raj reportedly consumed poison in what investigators describe as a suicide pact. Their deaths shocked the local community and raised serious concerns about informal lending practices.

The family’s surviving daughter discovered the bodies at home and immediately alerted the police. During the investigation, officers recovered a suicide note that explained the financial stress and harassment they had been facing.

According to the note, the family had taken a loan of Rs 57 lakh to support their King’s Biryani restaurant chain located in Mallapur and Chakripuram. The business reportedly struggled to repay the amount due to mounting interest.

Police investigations revealed that the lenders were charging extremely high daily interest rates. Officials said these charges were far above the legal limits set for financial transactions.

Investigators also stated that the lenders allegedly threatened the family with public humiliation and physical harm if the loan was not repaid quickly.

The accused reportedly collected several documents as collateral. These included blank cheques, promissory notes, memorandums of understanding, and the original land documents belonging to the family.

Police officials said the accused had even threatened to visit the house and publicly insult the family just hours before the suicide pact. Call data records later confirmed communication between the parties.

On March 2, the Amberpet Police in Hyderabad arrested four suspects. The accused were identified as Mohammed Wasi Uz Zaman, P. Rajasekhara Reddy, Mohammed Nawaz, and Syed Majeed Hyder.

They were booked under Section 108 of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita for abetment to suicide. Authorities said the investigation is continuing to determine the full extent of the harassment.

The tragedy also highlights a wider concern in India. According to NCRB data, debt related suicides increased nearly 10 percent to 7,034 cases in 2022.

Southern states including Telangana have reported some of the highest numbers in such incidents. Experts say stronger regulation of informal lending is necessary to protect vulnerable families.

Financial pressure and unregulated money lending can push struggling households into extreme distress. Experts believe stricter enforcement and awareness could help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
