Dry and Dead: Tollywood BO Needs Fuel!

Telugu box office has made it a habit to blow hot and cold based on the inflow of films. When a superstar driven film comes with solid content, the audience are turning up in huge numbers and vice versa for a small film with poor content.

This polarising trend was observed at the ticket counter last week as the Telugu audience simply did not turn up to watch any of the new films in theatres.

Films like Paapam Pratap and Bad Boy Karthik released in theatres last weekend, but neither of them could generate any traction at the box office.

After a disappointing weekend, these films could not even sustain the hourly bookings on BookMyShow from Monday itself. This is very concerning sign, not just for the makers of these films, but also the industry as a whole.

But again, this brings us back to the point that the audience are clearly prioritising content over everything, including promotions. Any kind of promotional activity that happens without a solid structure in the film is bound to fail.

For now, the industry is witnessing a very dry and dull period where bringing the audience to theatres has become a huge task.

The next big thing from Telugu cinema is obviously going to be Ram Charan’s Peddi. It needs to be seen if any of the smaller films in the meanwhile could reignite the fire at the ticket counters or of it’s Charan who will have to do the lifting himself.
