Hyderabad Police have issued a warning about fake e-challan messages being circulated through SMS and WhatsApp. Many vehicle owners are receiving messages claiming they have pending traffic fines and must pay immediately. These messages include links that appear legitimate but are actually fraudulent.
When users click these links, they are redirected to fake websites that request vehicle details and payment information. In some cases, harmful software is installed on the device, allowing scammers to steal bank details, OTPs and money. Several victims have reportedly lost large amounts after interacting with these links.
Police clarified that traffic authorities do not send payment links through WhatsApp or from unknown SMS numbers. All challan payments must be checked only on official government platforms. Citizens are advised to avoid panic and verify details before taking any action.
Anyone receiving a suspicious challan message should delete it immediately. Do not click any link or share personal information. If money is stolen, contact the bank right away and report the case to the cyber crime helpline 1930 or the cyber crime portal. Awareness and caution can prevent digital fraud.
