IIT Bombay: 160 Crore Donation Anonymously

Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay has received an anonymous donation of ₹160 crore, the first of its kind for the institute.

The institute said in a statement that the donor didn’t want to reveal the identity, which the institute accepted. This donation will be used for the development of a Green Energy and Sustainability Research hub.

IIT Bombay is among the top institutes in the nation, where at one time it held the topmost position among Indian Institutes in the world rankings. With an alumni base of thousands, the donations that it recieves is one of the highest too.

Only a couple of months ago, Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys, donated a massive ₹315 crores to the institute marking 50 years of his association with the institute. It was the highest ever alumni donation for any Indian institute.

The new Green Energy hub will facilitate the institute to focus on key areas such evaluating climate risks, climate change adaptation and comprehensive environmental monitoring.
