Indian Cab App Targets US: Uber & Lyft At Risk?

Bengaluru-based auto and cab booking app, Namma Yatri, is considering entering the U.S. market in collaboration with various unions.

According to reports, sources familiar with the situation have indicated that the company is negotiating to expand into the U.S. market.

Their goal is to gain an edge over major players like Uber and Lyft by partnering with local unions. However, for now, the company’s primary focus remains on expanding its operations within India.

Namma Yatri currently operates in several Indian cities, including Bengaluru, Mysuru, Kochi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Delhi.

As it plans to expand into the U.S., the company continues to work with Juspay, a payment solutions provider that recently obtained a Payment Aggregator (PA) license from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Juspay is also looking to enter international markets, including the U.S., Southeast Asia, and West Asia.

Biju Mathew, co-founder of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance (NYTWA), noted that Uber and Lyft dominate the U.S. cab market.

Although there is room for new entrants, staying competitive in the market requires continuous effort. The NYTWA, established in 1998, represents over 25,000 drivers and works to improve drivers’ conditions.

Namma Yatri’s potential entry into the U.S. market marks a significant step for Indian companies aiming for global expansion.
