Our Prime Minister is on his first foreign tour to Italy on G20 summit. Recently, the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni posted a selfie with Narendra Modi which understandably led to a slew of memes. Meloni used the hashtag #melodi, a wordplay on the names of both the leaders. With a caption “Good friends at COP28,” Meloni has sparked the creativity of many of their shippers.
Starting off with the selfie, the memers were already waiting for the #melodi moments. They made notice of how Meloni greeted the leaders with a Namaste. However they also noticed the way British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak greeted Giorgia, memers didn’t hesitate to comment how “Modiji got betrayed.”
As far as humor goes, memes are modern medium of expression, however it might turn ugly as well. The memes if taken seriously can cause considerable harm to the perception of both leaders. As many countered these memes, labelling them with #cringe and the fact that many have addressed how many memers have seriously started considering the Italian Prime Minister as “Bhabhi”. These memes must be kept light hearted, as many have started labeling Meloni as a “heartbreaker” and a “traitor”.
